Jashpur : A 30-year-old Pahadi Korwa man was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute over ₹200 in the Sanna police station area of Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place near the Sanna Panchayat Bhawan in Kandrai Path village. According to police, the victim, identified as Fagua Ram Korwa, had earlier lent ₹200 to one of the accused. A dispute reportedly broke out when he asked for the money back.
Police have arrested the father-son duo allegedly involved in the incident and recovered the objects believed to have been used in the assault, including a wooden bahinga and a stone.
Dispute Over ₹200 Turns Fatal
According to the police investigation, the incident occurred on August 10, 2026, when the accused father and son had travelled to Sanna to sell firewood.
On the same day, Fagua Ram had also arrived in Sanna with his wife to sell firewood.
During their stay in Sanna, a local resident identified as Raju reportedly asked the accused to bury a dead calf. The father and son allegedly buried the carcass and received some money in return.
Later, near the Sanna Panchayat Bhawan, the accused encountered Fagua Ram. The deceased reportedly asked one of the accused to return the ₹200 he had previously lent him.
The request allegedly led to an argument, which subsequently escalated into a physical assault.
Victim Attacked With Wooden Implement and Stone
Police said that during the confrontation, the accused father and son allegedly attacked Fagua Ram together.
The victim was reportedly struck several times on the head with a wooden bahinga and a nearby stone. He sustained serious head injuries and became unconscious at the scene.
An ambulance was called to take him to Jashpur for medical treatment. However, according to police, Fagua Ram died on the way to the hospital.
CCTV footage related to the incident has also been obtained by the police and is being examined as part of the investigation.
Murder Case Registered
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Aghanu Ram Korwa, 36, a resident of Kandrai Path, lodged a complaint at Sanna Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police registered a murder case against the two accused and began an investigation.
Police inspected the crime scene, prepared the necessary documentation and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
According to the preliminary post-mortem findings, the nature of death was considered homicidal, with injuries to the head identified as the apparent cause of death.
Police Arrest Two Accused
Police said that during questioning, both accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the incident.
After investigators found sufficient evidence, the father and son were formally arrested. Police also seized the wooden bahinga and stone allegedly used in the attack.
The two accused have subsequently been sent to judicial custody.
Jashpur police said further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
The case highlights how a dispute over a relatively small amount of money allegedly escalated into a fatal confrontation. The police investigation, including examination of CCTV footage and other evidence, is continuing.
