CM Vijay’s First Independence Day Flag-Hoisting Under Five-Tier Security Cover

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to hoist the national flag for the first time at Fort St George on Saturday, August 15, marking the 80th Independence Day. The event will take place under a five-tier security arrangement across Fort St George and surrounding areas.

The extensive security deployment has been ordered by Chennai City Police Commissioner A Amalraj ahead of the Chief Minister’s Independence Day address.

Five-Tier Security at Fort St George

Fort St George and nearby areas have been placed under heightened security. Senior police officials and personnel from multiple levels have been assigned special duties for the event.

Officials deployed include:

  • Additional Commissioners
  • Joint Commissioners
  • Deputy Commissioners
  • Assistant Commissioners
  • Inspectors
  • Other police personnel

Additional security teams have also been positioned at locations considered sensitive or heavily frequented by the public.

Security Across Key Chennai Locations

As part of the Independence Day security plan, police teams have been deployed at:

  • Chennai Airport
  • Railway stations
  • Bus terminals
  • Metro stations
  • Shopping malls
  • Beaches
  • Places of worship
  • VIP-frequented locations

Police are conducting intensive checking and monitoring at these locations as a precautionary measure.

Hotels and Lodges Being Checked

Security personnel are also conducting searches and verification drives at hotels and lodges across Chennai.

Authorities have appealed to the public to immediately alert the police if they notice:

  • Suspicious individuals
  • Unattended vehicles
  • Unusual activity
  • Any other potential security concern

Intensified Patrolling

Police patrolling has been increased throughout Chennai using both four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Barricades have been installed at important locations to facilitate vehicle checks, while police personnel have been positioned at major junctions for continuous surveillance.

Why the Security Has Been Strengthened

The heightened security comes as Chennai prepares for a major Independence Day ceremony involving the Chief Minister at the historic Fort St George.

The five-tier arrangement is intended to ensure:

Secure venue + controlled access + traffic monitoring + surveillance of sensitive locations + rapid response capability

The police deployment is expected to remain particularly intensive around Fort St George and other important locations during the Independence Day celebrations.

In short: CM Vijay’s first Independence Day flag-hoisting as Chief Minister is being conducted amid an extensive security operation covering not only Fort St George but also major transport hubs, public places and VIP-sensitive areas across Chennai.
