IIT Madras, CAMS Renew FinTech Partnership to Drive Next Phase of Financial Innovation

Chennai : The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Computer Age Management Services (CAMS) have renewed their partnership to accelerate fintech innovation, research, startup development and professional education through the CAMS IIT Madras FinTech Innovation Lab (CIFIL).

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the IIT Madras campus on Wednesday, marking the next phase of a collaboration that began in 2022 under CAMS’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Focus on Emerging FinTech Technologies

Under the renewed partnership, CIFIL will expand its work across several emerging areas of financial technology, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in financial services
  • Digital payments
  • Blockchain and tokenisation
  • Cybersecurity
  • RegTech
  • WealthTech
  • InsurTech
  • Digital lending
  • Data analytics
  • Financial inclusion

The initiative aims to bring together academic research and industry expertise to develop technology-driven solutions for the rapidly evolving financial services sector.

Research, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

The renewed partnership will also focus on strengthening research and development, creating intellectual property and facilitating technology transfer and commercialisation of research-led solutions.

CIFIL will work towards converting research outcomes into practical solutions that can address emerging challenges across banking, financial markets and other financial services.

The collaboration is also expected to provide a stronger platform for industry-academia interaction, allowing researchers and students to work closely with financial technology professionals.

Support for FinTech Startups

A key component of the renewed partnership will be expanded support for fintech startups and entrepreneurs.

Startups associated with the initiative will have access to:

He said the renewed partnership would help create an environment where innovative ideas could be transformed into practical solutions for the financial services ecosystem.

IIT Madras to Expand Opportunities for Students

IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti said the collaboration could accelerate the development of cutting-edge fintech solutions for Bharat’s financial ecosystem.

He highlighted opportunities for students to participate in research projects, internships, hackathons, expert interactions and startup mentoring.

The initiative is expected to provide students with greater exposure to real-world financial technology challenges while helping them develop solutions in collaboration with industry experts.

New Certificate Programmes

As part of its professional education initiatives, CIFIL will offer certificate programmes in FinTech and personal financial planning.

These programmes are expected to provide learners and working professionals with specialised knowledge of emerging financial technologies and modern financial management practices.

Vision to Become a Global FinTech Innovation Centre

M. Thenmozhi, Head of CIFIL, said the lab aims to emerge as a global centre for fintech innovation.

The initiative will focus on developing ventures and technology solutions addressing unresolved challenges across banking, financial markets and financial services.

The renewed IIT Madras-CAMS partnership therefore represents a broader push towards strengthening India’s fintech ecosystem by combining academic research, industry expertise, entrepreneurship and professional education.
