KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv on Thursday evening, triggering explosions across multiple parts of the Ukrainian capital and prompting authorities to issue urgent warnings for residents to seek shelter.
According to local officials, air raid alerts were activated as ballistic missiles targeted the city. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, urged residents to remain in protected areas, saying, “The enemy is launching ballistic missiles at Kyiv. Stay in shelters.”
The attack reportedly caused a warehouse fire in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district after missile debris struck the area. Emergency response teams were dispatched to contain the blaze and assess the damage.
Officials also reported that falling missile debris landed in several open areas across the city, injuring at least two people. The injured received medical attention, while emergency services continued search and assessment operations at affected locations.
The latest strike highlights the continued use of ballistic missiles in Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine, posing a significant threat due to their high speed and limited warning time. Ukrainian air defense systems were activated in an effort to intercept incoming missiles, although authorities are still evaluating the full extent of the damage.
The missile attack comes amid ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides continuing military operations as the conflict remains one of the world’s most closely watched security crises. Ukrainian officials have urged civilians to follow air raid alerts, remain in designated shelters, and comply with emergency instructions as rescue and recovery efforts continue.
