Mother and Brother Arrested After Murder Disguised as Suicide; Post-Mortem Exposes Truth in Chhattisgarh

Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh |: A 23-year-old man’s death, initially believed to be a suicide, has turned out to be a premeditated murder, with police arresting the victim’s mother and brother after a detailed forensic investigation in Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh.

The victim, Narsingh Sahu, a resident of Goji village under Kurud Police Station, was found hanging from a rope on June 29, 2026. At first glance, the case appeared to be a suicide. However, investigators became suspicious and launched a scientific and evidence-based investigation under the direction of Superintendent of Police Suraj Singh Parihar.

Post-Mortem Report Revealed Murder

According to police, the post-mortem examination revealed that Narsingh did not die from hanging. Instead, medical experts found that he had first been strangled manually, followed by ligature strangulation using a rope, leading to his death.

These findings contradicted the initial assumption of suicide and prompted investigators to question family members and re-examine the crime scene.

How the Murder Took Place

During police interrogation, the accused—identified as the victim’s mother, Kamla Bai Sahu, and brother, Naresh Sahu—allegedly confessed to the crime.

Police said the incident began after Narsingh demanded money to buy alcohol. When his family refused, an argument escalated into a violent confrontation. In a fit of anger, the mother and brother allegedly strangled him with their hands and then tightened a coconut rope around his neck, causing his death.

Investigators further revealed that the accused even forced him to consume pesticide, fearing he might still be alive after the strangulation.

Attempt to Stage a Suicide

To mislead both the police and relatives, the accused allegedly hung the victim’s body from a rope, attempting to make the murder appear to be a suicide.

However, the forensic examination, post-mortem findings, and scientific analysis of the crime scene exposed the alleged cover-up within 48 hours.

Police Action

After collecting sufficient evidence, Kurud Police arrested Kamla Bai Sahu and Naresh Sahu. A case has been registered against both under charges of murder and other relevant provisions of law. They were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Speaking on the case, Additional Superintendent of Police Shailendra Pandey said that the district police remain committed to conducting fair, scientific, and evidence-based investigations into serious crimes.

He emphasized that no accused will be allowed to escape the law, adding that the conspiracy to disguise the murder as a suicide was successfully uncovered through meticulous investigation.

The case highlights the crucial role of forensic science and post-mortem examinations in uncovering the truth, even when a crime is carefully staged to mislead investigators.
