CMD Harish Duhan administers anti-drug pledge to officers and employees; SECL reinforces commitment to building a healthy and drug-free society

Bilaspur : South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) organised a special pledge-taking ceremony at its headquarters in Bilaspur on August 18, 2026, as part of the Government of India’s ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign).

The programme was organised with the objective of creating greater awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, encouraging employees to actively participate in the campaign and strengthening collective efforts towards building a drug-free society.

SECL CMD Leads the Pledge

During the programme, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan administered the anti-drug pledge to officers and employees at the Administrative Building.

Senior officials present during the ceremony included:

  • N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical/Operations), SECL
  • Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL
  • Himanshu Jain, Chief Vigilance Officer, SECL
  • Other senior officers and employees of the company

The participants collectively pledged to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage people around them to stay away from drugs and other addictive substances.

‘Nasha Chhoden, Jeevan Joden’ Message

A key message of the programme was “Nasha Chhoden, Jeevan Joden” — Quit Drugs, Reconnect with Life.

Through this message, employees were encouraged to become active ambassadors of the drug-free movement and communicate the importance of a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle to their families, colleagues and communities.

The participants also resolved to contribute towards creating awareness about the social, physical and psychological consequences associated with substance abuse.

Focus on Awareness and Public Participation

The programme highlighted that combating substance abuse requires not only government action but also active participation from employees, families, communities and social organisations.

SECL is encouraging greater public participation in awareness initiatives aimed at informing people about the adverse consequences of drug and substance addiction.

Such awareness programmes can play an important role in encouraging individuals to seek healthier lifestyles and helping communities understand the importance of prevention and early intervention.

SECL’s Commitment to a Healthy Society

As one of the major coal-producing companies in the country, SECL has a large workforce and operates across communities in its areas of operation. Initiatives aimed at employee welfare, awareness and social responsibility therefore form an important part of its broader organisational activities.

The pledge programme reinforced the company’s commitment to promoting a healthy, responsible and drug-free environment among its employees and surrounding communities.

The initiative also sought to strengthen the message that every individual can contribute to the larger national objective of creating a society free from substance abuse.

Collective Resolve Against Substance Abuse

The officers and employees who participated in the programme took a collective pledge to:

  • Spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse.
  • Encourage people to adopt a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle.
  • Promote the message “Nasha Chhoden, Jeevan Joden.”
  • Participate actively in awareness and social initiatives against substance abuse.
  • Contribute to the creation of a healthier and drug-free society.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from SECL employees to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and contribute to the creation of a safer, healthier and more responsible society.
