Bhilai : Awareness sessions focusing on workplace safety, mental and emotional resilience, calm decision-making and emergency preparedness were organised at Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) under the ‘Eco Care and Disaster Management Campaign’ of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.
A total of 139 personnel from four major departments of BSP participated in the sessions. These included 23 employees from the Plate Mill, 47 from Mechanical and Utility (M&U), 39 from the Coke Ovens and Coal Chemicals Department (CO&CCD), and 30 from Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2).
Focus on Mental and Emotional Preparedness
The initiative was conceived and guided by Pawan Kumar, Executive Director (Human Resources), with the objective of strengthening employees’ mental and emotional resilience and promoting positive thinking.
The programme also focused on enhancing employees’ ability to take calm and balanced decisions during crisis situations and improving preparedness for responding effectively to emergencies.
Keeping in view the requirements of an industrial workplace, the sessions highlighted that effective disaster management involves more than physical safety measures. Mental balance, self-confidence, alertness and coordinated human response are equally important during emergencies.
From Panic to Peace
The sessions were conducted by Brahma Kumar Bharat Bhushan, Brahma Kumar Piyush, Professor Onkar Chand Sharma and Brahma Kumari Sister Anjali.
Speaking on the theme ‘Eco Care and Disaster Management’, the speakers emphasised the importance of managing pressure during crises, maintaining inner stability, developing emotional resilience and making balanced decisions.
Participants were encouraged to remain composed under pressure and respond to unforeseen situations with greater awareness, responsibility and confidence.
Strengthening Safety Culture at BSP
The initiative assumes particular significance in an industrial environment, where preparedness, alertness and effective human response play an important role in workplace safety.
By incorporating psychological and emotional preparedness into disaster management, the programme complemented conventional safety practices and encouraged employees to adopt a balanced, composed and responsible approach during emergencies.
The sessions were coordinated by the Human Resources Department. Sanjay Dwivedi, Human Resources (Works), played a key role in coordinating the programme across the participating departments and facilitating its smooth execution.
The initiative marks a meaningful step towards strengthening employee welfare, emergency preparedness and a robust safety culture at Bhilai Steel Plant.
