Rishikesh // THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has announced financial assistance for the families of workers who died and those who were injured in the Tail Race Tunnel (TRT) accident at the Vishnugad–Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) on August 13, 2026.
The company said the decision has been taken as an immediate support measure for the affected workers and their families following the unfortunate incident.
₹5 Lakh for Each Deceased Worker’s Family
Under the announced ex-gratia arrangement:
- ₹5 lakh will be provided to the Next of Kin (NoK) of each deceased worker.
- ₹1 lakh will be provided to each injured worker.
The financial assistance is intended to provide immediate support to families dealing with the consequences of the accident.
THDCIL Expresses Condolences
THDC India Limited expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the incident.
The management conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and said that it stands with the affected families during this difficult period.
The company further stated that it would extend all possible support and assistance to those affected by the accident.

The Vishnugad–Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) is a major hydropower project being developed by THDC India Limited in Uttarakhand.
The Tail Race Tunnel is an important component of a hydroelectric project, carrying water away from the powerhouse after it has passed through the turbines.
The August 13 incident occurred at the project’s Tail Race Tunnel, resulting in fatalities and injuries among workers.
