GRSE Announces Major Senior Management Restructuring, Promotes Eight Executives and Appoints New General Manager (Technical)


Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), one of India’s leading defense public sector shipyards, has announced a significant senior management restructuring, promoting eight senior executives and appointing a new General Manager (Technical). The leadership changes were disclosed through separate regulatory filings submitted to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE Limited on June 30, 2026, with all appointments and promotions becoming effective from July 1, 2026.

The company stated that the restructuring has been carried out in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The disclosures were signed by Company Secretary Sandeep Mahapatra.

Two Executives Elevated to Chief General Manager (CGM)

GRSE has promoted Shri Goutam Karmakar and Commander (Retd.) Satish Chandra Jha to the rank of Chief General Manager (CGM).

Goutam Karmakar, currently serving as General Manager – Refit & Business Development (RBD), joined GRSE in 1995 as a trainee after graduating in Mechanical Engineering. With nearly 30 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry, he has played a key role in the Fitting Out Jetty (FOJ) and Refit & Business Development divisions.

Commander (Retd.) Satish Chandra Jha, presently General Manager – FOJ, served for more than 18 years in the Indian Navy before joining GRSE. During his tenure at the company, he has been instrumental in strengthening the Engineering Services Department and improving operational efficiency.

Six Officials Promoted to General Manager (GM)

GRSE has also elevated six senior executives to the position of General Manager (GM):

  • Commander (Retd.) Pinakesh Das has been promoted after leading projects across Ship Repair, Bailey Bridge, and Refit & Business Development since joining GRSE in 2016.
  • Ms. Swagata Sen Roy, who has handled Corporate Planning, Business & Technology Development, Corporate Communication, and Marketing, has been elevated after combining 17 years of private sector experience with 14 years at GRSE.
  • Mr. Bipu Kumar Das, a Metallurgy postgraduate, joined the company in 1997 and has extensive expertise in Quality Assurance and Hull Outfit operations.
  • Commander (Retd.) Ambuj Kumar has been promoted while serving in the Project Management Team (P17A), overseeing the construction of India’s advanced Project 17A stealth frigates.
  • Commander (Retd.) Ravi Kumar Sharma, an expert in Naval Engineering, Marine Systems, and Ship Design, has been elevated from his role in the Chief Design Office (CDO).
  • Mr. Jayanta Kumar Sen, with more than 25 years of service at GRSE, has been recognized for his significant contributions to weapons installation and project management.

Sanjay Sarkar Appointed as General Manager (Technical)

In a separate announcement, GRSE appointed Shri Sanjay Sarkar as its new General Manager (Technical), effective July 1, 2026.

An Electrical Engineering graduate from NIT Durgapur, Sarkar joined GRSE in 2012 as Deputy General Manager (ERP) after an accomplished 25-year career in the technology sector, including service at CMC Ltd. Before his new appointment, he served as Additional General Manager (Information Technology) and will now lead the company’s technical operations.

Leadership Strengthened for Major Defense Projects

The comprehensive leadership restructuring comes as GRSE continues to execute one of its strongest order books, including the construction of Project 17A stealth frigates, Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), and various next-generation commercial and defense vessels.

The company expects the strengthened leadership team to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate project execution, and support India’s growing defense manufacturing and maritime modernization initiatives.
