Dr. Banwari Lal has a diverse academic background. He holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy along with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.

Dr. Banwari Lal brings more than 33 years of professional experience to the GAIL Board.
During his career, he has gained extensive exposure in key areas including:
- Business Taxation
- General Administration
- Vigilance
- Government administration and governance
- Policy and regulatory matters
He has also served for more than 10 years at the level of Joint Secretary and above, giving him substantial experience in senior-level administration and decision-making.

His extensive exposure to taxation, administration and vigilance is expected to be relevant to the functioning of the Board, particularly in areas involving governance, compliance, risk management and institutional oversight.
