Lormi Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Trade Under ‘Operation Baaz’; Two Arrested


Mungeli, Chhattisgarh |As part of the ongoing anti-narcotics and anti-illegal liquor drive “Operation Baaz,” Lormi Police have intensified action against illicit liquor trafficking and sales in Mungeli district. Acting under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel (IPS), the police arrested two individuals and seized a large quantity of illegal liquor along with a motorcycle used for transportation.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Navneet Kaur Chhabda and Deputy Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh.

Based on a tip-off received on January 25, Lormi Police set up a checkpoint near Rehunta School and intercepted two suspicious persons. During questioning, they were identified as Kamal Singh Dhruv (48) and Parmanand Dhruv (39), residents of Dholgi village under Lormi police station limits.

A search revealed that Kamal Singh Dhruv was carrying 61 bottles of country-made plain liquor, each containing 180 ml, totaling 10.98 bulk liters, concealed in a red bag. The seized liquor is estimated to be worth ₹4,880 (approximately USD 60). Police also seized a Honda SP motorcycle (CG 09 JK 7928) used for transporting the liquor, valued at around ₹30,000.

When asked to produce valid permits or documents related to possession and transportation of liquor, the accused failed to provide any legal authorization.

The seized liquor and motorcycle were confiscated in the presence of witnesses, and a case was registered at Lormi Police Station under Sections 34(2) and 59(a) of the Chhattisgarh Excise Act (Crime No. 28/26). Both accused were arrested and later sent to judicial custody.

Police officials stated that “Operation Baaz” will continue across the district to curb illegal activities involving liquor, narcotics, and other antisocial elements. All police station and outpost in-charges have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and take firm action against offenders.

The operation was led by Inspector Akhilesh Vaishnav, Station House Officer of Lormi, with active support from the local police team.
