Raipur, Chhattisgarh |: Political tensions have intensified in Chhattisgarh ahead of the Monsoon Session of the State Legislative Assembly, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launching a sharp attack on the opposition Congress over its alleged internal divisions.
Addressing the media before the session, BJP State Spokesperson Anurag Agrawal claimed that the Congress is facing a severe crisis of confidence within its own ranks and should resolve its internal disputes before attempting to challenge the ruling government through a No-Confidence Motion.
According to Agrawal, recent public statements made by senior Congress leaders, including State Congress President Deepak Baij, former Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singh Deo, and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, indicate growing disagreements within the party. He argued that these remarks reflect a lack of trust among Congress leaders and questioned how the party could effectively unite against the BJP government while struggling with internal conflicts.
The BJP spokesperson also referred to the recent arrest of the Congress party’s state treasurer, alleging that the development has created uncertainty and anxiety within the opposition party. He claimed that Congress leaders are concerned about possible future investigations, resulting in an atmosphere of unease and political instability within the organization.
On the issue of Left-Wing Extremism, Agrawal praised the Vishnu Deo Sai-led BJP government, asserting that the state has made significant progress in tackling Naxalism, a security challenge that has affected parts of Chhattisgarh for more than four decades. He stated that the government’s strengthened security measures and sustained operations have considerably weakened extremist activities across the state.
Highlighting the government’s performance, Agrawal further said that the BJP administration has fulfilled most of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s electoral guarantees in Chhattisgarh. He added that the remaining commitments are being implemented at a rapid pace and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing its development agenda.
Taking another swipe at the opposition, Agrawal suggested that the upcoming Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting would likely focus more on repairing the party’s internal unity than formulating a strategy to corner the BJP government during the Assembly session.
The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly’s Monsoon Session is scheduled to be held from July 13 to July 17, 2026, comprising five sittings. Ahead of the session, the Congress Legislature Party has convened an important meeting in Raipur at the official residence of Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant.
The meeting is expected to be attended by senior Congress leaders, including Bhupesh Baghel, T.S. Singh Deo, Deepak Baij, and all Congress MLAs. Party leaders are expected to discuss their legislative strategy, key public issues, and plans to challenge the BJP government during the Assembly proceedings.
While the BJP continues to portray Congress as a party divided by internal disagreements, the opposition is preparing to use the Monsoon Session to raise issues related to governance and hold the state government accountable on the Assembly floor. The upcoming session is expected to witness intense political exchanges between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
