New Delhi : In a significant move to strengthen India’s clean energy transition and promote sustainable development, the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) have signed a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at supporting Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in achieving their climate resilience and low-carbon development goals.
The MoU was formally signed by Shri Atul Sobti, Director General of SCOPE, and Ms. Anne Hammill, Associate Vice-President (Resilience) at IISD, marking the beginning of a long-term collaboration focused on advancing renewable energy, environmental sustainability, and decarbonization across India’s public sector.
According to the agreement, both organizations will work together to support India’s energy transition through strategic policy dialogue, joint research, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building initiatives. The partnership will focus on key areas such as Renewable Energy, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, Green Finance, and a Just Transition, ensuring that the shift toward cleaner energy is both economically viable and socially inclusive.
The collaboration also aims to identify funding opportunities, develop practical sustainability solutions, organize learning and training programs, and provide access to valuable knowledge resources. These efforts are designed to help Public Sector Enterprises adapt to rapidly evolving global sustainability standards, climate policies, and decarbonization priorities.
As part of this initiative, SCOPE and IISD have already launched “PSUs for Practitioners’ Learning and Action Network on Energy Transition (PSUs for PLANET),” a collaborative platform dedicated to supporting Public Sector Undertakings in overcoming common energy transition challenges.
The PSUs for PLANET platform promotes trust-based collaboration among industry practitioners, policymakers, regulators, and public enterprises. It is designed to address complex transition issues while recognizing the financial realities, operational requirements, and local socio-economic sensitivities faced by PSUs during the shift toward cleaner energy systems.
Officials from both organizations emphasized that the partnership reflects their shared commitment to supporting India’s climate goals, enhancing energy security, and fostering sustainable economic growth. By combining expertise, policy insights, and collaborative action, the initiative is expected to strengthen the role of Indian PSUs in leading the country’s transition toward a greener, more resilient, and low-carbon future.
The agreement represents another important milestone in India’s broader efforts to achieve its Net-Zero ambitions, expand the adoption of renewable energy, and build a sustainable and climate-resilient economy through stronger institutional partnerships and innovation-driven solutions.
