Mungeli, Chhattisgarh (India) :
Police in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh have successfully solved a blind murder case within 24 hours, arresting the victim’s wife for allegedly killing her husband while he was asleep.
According to officials, the incident took place in Gangdwari village under the Pathariya police station area. The accused woman, identified as Rujeshwari Rajput (26), allegedly murdered her husband Ajooram Rajput (51) by attacking him with an iron axe during the early hours of the night.
The case was initially reported on January 24, when Rujeshwari informed the police that an unidentified person had entered their house around 3:00 a.m. and killed her husband. Based on her complaint, Pathariya police registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and began an investigation.
Considering the seriousness of the case, Senior Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel (IPS) ordered the formation of a special investigation team. Under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Navneet Kaur Chhabra and Deputy Superintendent of Police Navneet Patil, police examined forensic evidence, questioned neighbors, and analyzed the crime scene.
During the investigation, police found inconsistencies in the woman’s statement. Neighbors revealed that the deceased had married Rujeshwari as his second wife and that the couple frequently argued. Based on suspicion, police detained the woman and questioned her with the help of a female officer.
During interrogation, Rujeshwari confessed to the crime, stating that she was mentally distressed due to alleged harassment by her husband and ongoing health issues. She admitted that after a previous argument, she decided to eliminate him. Police said she attacked her husband multiple times on the head, face, neck, chest, and abdomen with an iron axe while he was sleeping.
To mislead neighbors, the accused later fabricated a false story of theft and murder by an unknown intruder.
Police recovered the iron axe used in the crime and the blood-stained sari worn by the accused at the time of the incident. She was formally arrested on the night of January 24 and sent to judicial custody on January 25.
Mungeli police officials praised the swift investigation and teamwork that led to the rapid resolution of the case.
