Raipur: Grand Celebration of Chhattisgarh Rajbhasha Diwas — Chhattisgarhi Language to Be Included in the Eighth Schedule Soon, Says Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal


Raipur, A grand ceremony was organized at the Department of Culture Auditorium on the occasion of Chhattisgarh Rajbhasha Diwas, with Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal attending as the Chief Guest. The event witnessed the presence of Raipur North MLA Shri Purandar Mishra, Dharsiwa MLA Shri Anuj Sharma, Chairperson of Chhattisgarh Film Development Corporation Ms. Mona Sen, Chairperson of Chhattisgarh Sahitya Academy Shri Shashank Sharma, Director of Culture & Rajbhasha Shri Vivek Acharya, and Secretary of Chhattisgarhi Rajbhasha Commission Dr. Abhilasha Behar.

The guests were welcomed in the traditional Chhattisgarhia manner by offering khumri. The special highlight of the programme was that all dignitaries delivered their speeches entirely in the Chhattisgarhi language.


🔹 “Chhattisgarhi will soon be included in the Eighth Schedule” — Minister Agrawal

Addressing the gathering in Chhattisgarhi, Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal announced that the Chhattisgarhi language will soon be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He mentioned that earlier initiatives had been undertaken in this direction and now a fully prepared, comprehensive proposal will be sent to the Central Government.

Speaking about the linguistic richness of the State, he quoted the popular saying:

“Kos-kos par pani badle, chaar kos par baani”
to emphasize the wide variety of dialects spoken across different regions of Chhattisgarh. He expressed determination to enrich the language further by embracing all these dialects.

The Minister congratulated the writers for their invaluable contribution to Chhattisgarhi literature and released several new books authored by Chhattisgarh’s literary figures. He also visited the Chhattisgarhi book exhibition arranged in the department premises and took a selfie at the specially installed Selfie Point.


🔹 Six eminent litterateurs honoured, 13 new books released

Six distinguished authors were honoured for their contributions to Chhattisgarhi language and literature:
Padma Shri Dharmapal Saini (Jagdalpur)
Sarala Sharma (Durg)
S. P. Jaiswal (Surguja)
Hemlal Sahu “Nirmohi” (Durg)
Dr. Prakash Patangiwar (Raipur)
Kashi Sahu (Bilaspur)

A total of 13 Chhattisgarhi books were released, including:
