Mungeli : Collector and District Election Officer Kundan Kumar conducted a late-night review of the progress of the digitisation of enumeration forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
During the inspection, officials found that the digitisation progress in urban areas was significantly low. It was also observed that some urban voters are registered at more than one location, leading to confusion regarding where their names should remain on the voter list.
Taking note of the situation, the Collector clarified that once the enumeration form of a voter has been digitised by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of one polling station, it cannot be digitised again from another polling station.
The Collector further stated that if a voter’s name appears at more than one location, the voter must choose their permanent place of residence.
A voter should submit the form only for the place where they currently reside and wish to remain registered, and the name from the other location will be automatically deleted.
He also emphasized that registration as a voter at more than one place is a violation of Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act (RPA), 1950 (43).
Under this provision, offenders may face punishment of up to one year of imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The Collector appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary confusion and ensure that their names are registered at their correct residential address. He urged voters to help strengthen democracy and protect their voting rights by maintaining accurate voter records.
