Dhamtari Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Sanitation Violations; Three Dairies Sealed, Heavy Fines Imposed

Authorities in Dhamtari have launched a major sanitation enforcement drive as part of an ongoing effort to improve urban cleanliness and strengthen compliance with civic hygiene standards.

The campaign, led by the Dhamtari Municipal Corporation, resulted in the sealing of three dairies, fines totaling ₹38,800 (approximately $465), and penalty notices issued to several businesses, including a large retail mart accused of violating sanitation norms.

Citywide Inspection Campaign

Municipal teams conducted inspections across multiple commercial and residential areas of the city on Wednesday. During the inspections, officials found several businesses and dairy operators allegedly violating sanitation and waste-disposal regulations.

According to municipal authorities, some establishments were disposing of garbage and dairy waste improperly, contributing to unsanitary conditions and blocked drainage systems.

Officials said immediate action was taken against violators during the inspection drive.

Three Dairies Sealed Over Waste Disposal Violations

Deputy Commissioner P.C. Sarva stated that several dairy operators had repeatedly been warned against releasing cow dung and other waste materials directly into public drains.

Despite multiple notices and verbal warnings, authorities claimed that no corrective action was taken by the operators.

As a result, the municipal corporation sealed three dairies:

  • One dairy located in the Ramsagar area
  • Two dairies located in the Risai Para locality

Officials said the decision was taken to prevent further environmental contamination and maintain public hygiene standards.

Retail Mart Issued ₹10,000 Penalty Notice

In addition to action against dairy operators, the municipal corporation also issued a penalty notice of ₹10,000 to a major retail mart for alleged sanitation-related violations.

Several smaller shops and businesses across the city were also fined, with authorities issuing challans and warnings depending on the seriousness of the violations.

Municipal officials emphasized that repeat offenders could face stricter legal and administrative action in the future.

Swachhata Rally Organized to Raise Awareness

As part of the broader cleanliness campaign linked to India’s national Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness Survey), a public awareness rally was organized from the Bilai Mata Temple.

During the rally:

  • Awareness messages promoting sanitation and waste management were shared with residents and shopkeepers.
  • Cleanliness stickers were distributed and pasted at commercial establishments.
  • Citizens were encouraged to cooperate with municipal sanitation guidelines.

Officials said the campaign aims not only to penalize violators but also to educate residents and businesses about maintaining a cleaner urban environment.

Earlier Action Already Taken This Week

The latest enforcement action follows earlier penalties imposed by the municipal corporation just two days ago, when several shopkeepers were collectively fined ₹4,000 for sanitation violations.

The administration has indicated that inspections and enforcement drives will continue regularly across the city.

Municipal Administration Warns of Continued Strict Action

The Dhamtari Municipal Corporation has made it clear that businesses and establishments violating sanitation norms will continue to face strict penalties, including:

  • Monetary fines
  • Legal notices
  • Sealing of premises for repeated violations

Officials said the city administration is committed to improving public hygiene, urban cleanliness, and environmental conditions as part of its broader civic development initiatives.

The campaign reflects increasing efforts by local governments across India to strengthen urban sanitation management and improve rankings in national cleanliness assessments.
