Surajpur, Chhattisgarh | : A high-profile assault and death case in Surajpur district has taken a new turn after a local court granted bail to all ten accused arrested in connection with the alleged assault that led to the death of a young man. The court’s decision has sparked public outrage, with the victim’s family and local residents questioning the handling of the investigation by the police.
The incident occurred in the Pratappur police station area, where Harinandan Rajwade, a resident of Gonda village, was allegedly attacked over an old personal dispute. The victim later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, prompting police to register a murder case and arrest ten suspects.
Incident Linked to an Old Rivalry
According to police and local accounts, Harinandan Rajwade had visited the house of an acquaintance in his village when a group of youths from Kewra village allegedly arrived. The group reportedly confronted him over a long-standing personal rivalry before allegedly assaulting him.
Witnesses stated that after beating him, the accused allegedly forcibly took him away from the location. The victim was later found seriously injured nearly six kilometers away, where he had allegedly been abandoned by the attackers.
Family members reportedly chased the suspects after receiving information about the assault. They found Harinandan near Sattipara Chowk, where the accused allegedly left him before fleeing the scene.
Victim Succumbed to Injuries
The severely injured victim was immediately shifted to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries, following which police registered a murder case and initiated an investigation.
A woman present at the house where the initial assault allegedly occurred had lodged a complaint with the police, stating that she witnessed a group of individuals assaulting Harinandan before taking him away.
Police Arrested Ten Accused
Following the complaint and investigation, Pratappur Police arrested ten accused in connection with the case and produced them before the competent court.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yogesh Kumar Devangan, the accused were presented before the court after a hearing that continued late into the night.
“A murder case was registered based on the woman’s complaint. Ten accused were arrested and produced before the court. After the hearing, the court granted bail to all of them,” ASP Yogesh Kumar Devangan said.
