WhatsApp to Introduce New “Thinking Mode” for Meta AI, Promising Smarter and More Accurate Answers

Hyderabad: WhatsApp is preparing to make its in-app Meta AI significantly smarter and more user-friendly by introducing a new “Thinking Mode”, according to features spotted in the latest Android beta version of the app.

The upcoming enhancement was observed in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.3.10, indicating that Meta is working on a dual-mode response system for its AI assistant. Once rolled out, users will be able to choose between Fast Mode and the newly developed Thinking Mode, depending on the type of response they need.

Faster Queries, Deeper Answers

Currently, Meta AI on WhatsApp operates in what will now be known as Fast Mode, the default setting designed to deliver instant responses. This mode is optimized for quick questions, simple explanations, and everyday information where speed is the top priority.

The new Thinking Mode, however, is aimed at users who need more thoughtful, detailed, and well-structured answers. In this mode, Meta AI will take extra time to analyze the question, understand the context, and generate more accurate and comprehensive responses.

According to early reports, Thinking Mode will be especially useful for:

  • Multi-step or complex questions
  • Comparisons and analysis
  • Summaries of long messages
  • Planning tasks and decision-making
  • Problem-solving and detailed explanations

Easier Interaction With Messages

WhatsApp has also been improving how users interact with Meta AI inside chats. Earlier, in beta version 2.25.23.24, the platform introduced a shortcut that allows users to ask Meta AI questions directly about a message — without forwarding it.

With this feature, users can select a message in a chat, tap the Meta AI option, and ask questions related to that message. They can also add extra prompts to refine the AI’s response, making the process faster and more intuitive.

Simple Mode Switching With Visual Cues

Users will have full control over switching between Fast Mode and Thinking Mode. A dedicated AI mode selector button will appear in the chat interface.

  • Fast Mode will be represented by a lightning (thunder) icon, signaling quick responses.
  • Thinking Mode will be indicated by a bulb icon, symbolizing deeper analysis and reasoning.

Tapping the icon again will allow users to switch back to Fast Mode instantly.

Still Under Development

At present, the Thinking Mode feature is still in the development stage and is not yet available to the general public. WhatsApp is expected to roll it out in a future update after further testing.

Industry watchers believe Meta may introduce additional AI customization options in the coming months, as the company continues to integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities across its apps.

With these updates, WhatsApp aims to transform Meta AI from a quick-response chatbot into a more powerful digital assistant — capable of both speed and thoughtful intelligence — directly inside everyday conversations.
