Kia India has opened order bookings for the Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG, with both models set to enter the market soon
Hyderabad: Kia India has opened order bookings for its upcoming Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG. Customers can now book the two CNG-powered MPVs through authorised Kia dealerships across the country.
The Kia Carens CNG will be offered in the Premium (O) G1.5 6MT trim, while the Carens Clavis CNG will be available in HTE and HTE (O) G1.5 6MT variants. The CNG powertrain will be offered exclusively with a manual transmission.
Kia Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG: Design
Kia has largely retained the exterior design of the petrol versions, with no major styling changes for the CNG variants. Both models will, however, feature 16-inch wheels and disc brakes.
The company has also revised the suspension setup to accommodate the CNG system while maintaining a balanced ride quality and overall driving experience.
Interior and Practicality
Inside the cabin, both CNG models receive a dedicated CNG fuel switch along with a 4.2-inch colour TFT MID.
Kia has also introduced a modified seat-back frame for the third-row seats to improve passenger comfort. However, fitting the CNG tank inside the boot results in reduced luggage space.
The boot capacity drops to around 116 litres, compared with 216 litres in the petrol versions.
Engine and CNG Powertrain
The Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG come with a 1.5-litre petrol-CNG engine, paired with a 45-litre petrol tank and a 60-litre CNG tank. The CNG tank can hold approximately 9 kg of CNG.
When running on CNG, the engine produces 92 bhp of power and 123 Nm of torque. This is around 20 bhp less power and 21 Nm lower torque than the corresponding petrol version of the engine.
Kia India has not yet announced the official fuel-efficiency figures for either CNG model.
Both vehicles will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, with the CNG powertrain currently limited to manual variants.
Kia Expands Its CNG and Commercial Mobility Portfolio
With the introduction of the CNG variants, Kia India is also looking to strengthen its presence in the B2B and commercial mobility segment.
The Carens Clavis, in particular, now offers customers a broader range of powertrain choices, including petrol, diesel, CNG and electric options.
The company is expected to announce the official launch date and pricing of the Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG soon.
