64.80 Bulk Litres of Illicit Liquor, 40 Kg Mahua Lahan and a Motorcycle Seized; Cases Registered Against Seven Accused
Mungeli : The Excise Department has intensified its campaign against the illegal manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of liquor in Mungeli district. Acting on the directions of Collector Amrit Vikas Topno, the department conducted raids at several locations across the district during August and seized illicit liquor and materials allegedly linked to its production.
According to the department, its teams acted on information received during patrolling and other inputs and carried out searches in different villages. The operations resulted in the seizure of 64.80 bulk litres of illicit liquor, 40 kg of mahua lahan and one motorcycle.
Seven People Booked
Cases were registered against the following persons in connection with the seizures:
- Shivkumar Yadav, son of Antaram Yadav, village Bhantha, Fasterpur police station
- Ajay Kumar, son of Chatur Singh, village Bhatgaon, Mungeli police station
- Deva Dhuri, son of Shravan Dhuri, village Barela, Jarhagaon police station
- Vikas Sahu, son of Ghanshyam Sahu, village Sal, Nawagarh police station
- Jangla Kumar, son of Chautaram, village Salheghori, Lormi police station
- Ramphal, son of Sahadur, village Kukusda, Pathariya police station
- Vijay Jaiswal, son of Gaurishankar Jaiswal, village Kodwabani, Lalpur police station
Country-Made and Mahua Liquor Seized
During the raids, the department recovered 42.80 bulk litres of country-made plain liquor and 22.00 bulk litres of raw mahua liquor from the possession of the accused.
The combined quantity of illicit liquor seized was 64.80 bulk litres. Officials also seized 40 kg of mahua lahan, a fermented material used in the preparation of illicit liquor, along with one motorcycle allegedly used in connection with the activity.
Cases Registered Under Chhattisgarh Excise Act
The Excise Department registered cases against the accused under Sections 34(1)(a), 34(2) and 59(a) of the Chhattisgarh Excise Act, 1915.
The department said that where non-bailable offences were found to have been committed, the accused were arrested at the spot and further legal proceedings were initiated as per the law.
Crackdown on Illegal Liquor to Continue
The District Excise Officer said that continuous surveillance and raids are being carried out across Mungeli district to curb the illegal manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of liquor.
Officials said information received during patrolling and through other channels is being promptly verified, with action taken wherever violations are detected.
The district administration has made it clear that the campaign against the illegal liquor trade will continue and that those found violating the law will face action under the applicable provisions of the Excise Act.
Complaints Through CM Helpline Also Being Acted Upon
The administration said complaints received through Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s CM Helpline are also being taken up promptly by the Excise Department.
The department is acting on such complaints after verification and carrying out necessary enforcement measures against illegal liquor-related activities.
Officials have reiterated that the campaign against illicit liquor will remain ongoing across the district, with continued monitoring and enforcement action aimed at preventing illegal liquor production, storage, transportation and sale.
