Mungeli Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Trade, Nine Arrested in Preventive Action

Bhojram Patel-led authorities in the district of Mungeli have intensified their campaign against illegal activities, taking strict preventive action against alleged illegal liquor sellers in the Jarhagaon police station area.

According to an official press release issued on May 13, 2026, the operation was conducted under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhojram Patel and under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Navneet Kaur Chhabra. The coordinated action involved the Jarhagaon Police Station team along with the district Cyber Cell.

Police officials stated that they had received information regarding the illegal sale of liquor in the region. Authorities said the unlawful trade was contributing to anti-social activities and negatively influencing children and young people by exposing them to substance abuse at an early age.

Acting on the intelligence input, police teams carried out raids at multiple locations linked to the suspects. During the operation, the accused individuals allegedly denied involvement in illegal liquor sales but reportedly became aggressive and created a disturbance in front of the police team. Officials said some of the suspects questioned who had filed complaints against them, escalating tensions at the scene.

Despite repeated warnings and attempts by officers to calm the situation, the individuals allegedly continued disruptive behavior. Considering the possibility of further disturbances and the likelihood of repeated illegal liquor activities, police initiated preventive legal action under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The following nine individuals were taken into custody:

  1. Omprakash Kashyap, 25
  2. Sumit Kashyap, 19
  3. Deepak Sahu, 47
  4. Deendayal Kashyap, 42
  5. Dharmendra Kashyap, 37
  6. Lorik Yadav, 33
  7. Pushpendra Kumar alias Sonu Sahu, 33
  8. Vikas Kashyap, 40
  9. Vinod Kashyap, 24

All are residents of Jarhagaon Nagar Panchayat in Mungeli district, Chhattisgarh.

Police registered preventive proceedings under Sections 170, 126, and 135(3) of the BNSS and presented the accused before the competent court for further legal proceedings.

Mungeli Police also appealed to the public to report illegal liquor sales, drug-related activities, and other unlawful acts to law enforcement authorities promptly in order to maintain peace, public safety, and a secure social environment in the district.
