Bengaluru : Canara Bank, one of India’s leading public sector banks, has announced the appointment of Shri Sujit Kumar Sahoo as its Group Chief Compliance Officer (GCCO) for a three-year tenure, effective July 1, 2026. The appointment order was officially issued on July 31, 2026, and the Bank has informed both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) through a regulatory filing.

Prior to his appointment as Group Chief Compliance Officer, Shri Sujit Kumar Sahoo was serving as the Chief General Manager (CGM) and Interim Group Chief Compliance Officer in the Bank’s Compliance & RBS Wing. His elevation to the permanent role reflects the Bank’s confidence in his leadership and extensive expertise in the field of banking compliance and risk management.
In his new role, Sahoo will be responsible for overseeing the Bank’s regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, strengthening internal governance mechanisms, and promoting a robust compliance culture across the organization.

Shri Sujit Kumar Sahoo brings with him more than 29 years of rich banking experience, having served in a wide range of operational and leadership positions across eight Indian states. His career spans assignments in both rural and metropolitan banking environments, providing him with extensive exposure to diverse banking operations and customer segments.
His educational and professional qualifications include:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Diploma in Treasury, Investment and Risk Management
- Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB)
These qualifications, combined with his practical experience, have established him as a seasoned banking professional with expertise in compliance, risk management, treasury operations, and banking governance.
Extensive Leadership Across India
Throughout his distinguished career, Sahoo has held several key leadership positions within Canara Bank. He has successfully managed operations at the branch, regional, circle, and head office levels.
Some of his notable assignments include:
- Heading the Ranchi Circle Office.
- Serving as Regional Head in Madurai, Chennai, and Sambalpur.
- Managing banking operations across multiple regions with diverse business and regulatory requirements.
- Currently leading the Compliance & RBS Wing at Canara Bank’s Head Office in Bengaluru.
His broad operational exposure is expected to further strengthen the Bank’s compliance architecture and governance practices.
