Police have registered an unnatural death case after an engineer couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances at their rented residence in Bengaluru.
BENGALURU: A 32-year-old civil engineer and his 29-year-old software engineer wife were found dead at their rented home in Bengaluru on Friday (August 14), prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Rajagopal Nagar Police Station. The deceased were identified as Sumant Jain (32), a native of Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, and Padmavathi (29) from Hubballi.
According to police, Sumant worked as a civil engineer in Nandini Layout, while Padmavathi was employed as a software engineer at a private company in Whitefield.
The couple lived in a rented house in Bank Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, near Laggere. Their bodies were discovered inside the house on Friday afternoon. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and registered an unnatural death report (UDR).
Police Suspect Possible Murder-Suicide
Senior police officials said the couple’s parents have been informed about the deaths. Police are investigating the possibility that Sumant may have killed his wife before taking his own life. However, authorities have not yet established the exact cause or sequence of events.
According to preliminary information, the couple had reportedly been having disagreements since August 13.
WhatsApp Messages Raise Questions
Police sources said Padmavathi had sent a WhatsApp message to her mother amid the dispute. In the message, she reportedly expressed distress and asked her mother to take possession of the gold jewellery given to her at the time of her marriage.
Police also reportedly recovered a message allegedly sent by Sumant, in which he referred to his provident fund money and belongings and claimed that his wife was quarrelling with him over ownership of the house.
Investigators are examining the messages, the couple’s recent communications and other evidence from the residence to determine what happened before their deaths.
Post-Mortem Report Awaited
The police investigation is currently underway, and the post-mortem reports are expected to provide further information about the cause of death. Officials are also questioning relatives and examining other available evidence as they seek to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Note: The police have not yet officially confirmed the murder-suicide theory, and the exact cause of the couple’s deaths will be established only after the investigation and forensic examination are completed.
