Bastar Police Crack Down on Drug Traffickers, Seize Narcotic Capsules Worth ₹96,000 in Jagdalpur


Jagdalpur — In a significant operation against the illegal drug trade, Bastar Police arrested two alleged drug traffickers and seized a large quantity of restricted narcotic capsules valued at approximately ₹96,000, officials said on Saturday.

The operation was carried out in the Bodhghat Police Station jurisdiction after law enforcement received intelligence that two individuals were preparing to sell prohibited narcotic substances near Metguda Dongri in Jagdalpur.

Acting on the tip-off, a special police team was formed under the direction of Superintendent of Police Shalabh Kumar Sinha, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag and supervision of City Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar. The team, led by Station House Officer Tameshwar Chauhan, conducted a raid and apprehended the suspects after strategically surrounding the area.

During a search of a carry bag found in the suspects’ possession, police recovered 30 strips of Pyeevon Spas Plus Tramadol HCL capsules, totaling 240 restricted narcotic capsules. Authorities estimated the market value of the seized drugs at approximately ₹96,000.

The accused were identified as Akash Poya (21), a resident of Maharani Ward, Jagdalpur, and Radrik Soma (42), a resident of Mother Teresa Ward, Jagdalpur. Investigators said neither individual was able to provide any valid documentation authorizing the possession or sale of the restricted pharmaceutical drugs.

Police registered a case against both suspects under Section 21(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following their arrest, the accused were produced before the Special NDPS Court in Jagdalpur, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Officials stated that the operation reflects the ongoing commitment of Bastar Police to combat the illegal narcotics trade and prevent drug abuse among young people in the region.
