Raipur: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur organised a series of activities on September 30, 2026, aimed at promoting cleanliness, civic responsibility, environmental protection and social awareness.
As part of these initiatives, the institute’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Club conducted Swachhta Abhiyan 2026 in the historic and religious town of Rajim, while the institute’s literary committee, Literati, organised an essay writing competition on the theme “Swachhta Se Samriddhi” (Cleanliness for Prosperity).
The cleanliness drive in Rajim focused on creating awareness among local residents, devotees and young people about hygienic practices and proper waste disposal, while encouraging citizens to keep public places clean. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Regional Coordinator, UBA, NIT Raipur.
Dr. Govardhan Bhatt, PI Coordinator; Dr. Deepika Agrawal and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Tripathi, Faculty In-charges of the UBA Club; and UBA Assistant Vijay Verma, along with a large number of students, actively participated in the campaign.
During the drive, participants undertook shramdaan and carried out intensive cleaning of public areas. They also interacted with local residents and shopkeepers, urging them to segregate waste and dispose of it at designated locations. Participants also appealed to people to avoid single-use plastic and refrain from littering in public spaces.
A cleanliness rally was also organised by the students to spread awareness about solid waste management, responsible civic behaviour and environmental protection.
Meanwhile, the Literati Committee of NIT Raipur organised an essay writing competition on the theme “Swachhta Se Samriddhi” under the guidance of Dr. Y. Vijay Babu and Dr. Chetna S. Rajput. Students from various disciplines participated in the competition and expressed their views on cleanliness, civic duties, environmental sustainability and the crucial role of a clean environment in building a prosperous nation.
The combined initiatives of NIT Raipur provided a common platform for community participation, student leadership and intellectual expression. The cleanliness campaign in Rajim and the essay competition not only reinforced the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission but also highlighted the importance of collective efforts and active citizen participation in building a healthy and prosperous India.
