CIA Team Recovers Heroin from Unregistered Swift Car; Three-Day Police Remand Obtained
Moga, Punjab : Moga Police have arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized 12 kilograms of heroin during an operation against narcotics trafficking, officials said.
The action was carried out by the CIA staff of Moga Police following a tip-off about a Swift car parked without a registration number at Dana Mandi in the Ajitwal area.
The vehicle was searched after the police team reached the location, leading to the recovery of the suspected contraband. The car was also seized.
A case has been registered against the three accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Ajitwal Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
Police Act on Secret Information
According to SP (D) Ajay Raj, a CIA team led by Inspector Daljit Singh was conducting patrols in the area when police received confidential information about the unregistered car parked at Ajitwal Dana Mandi.
Acting on the information, the team reached the spot and conducted a search of the vehicle. Police said the search resulted in the recovery of 12 kg of heroin.
The contraband and vehicle were subsequently taken into custody and the three suspects were arrested.
Three Suspects Identified
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Solab Singh, a resident of Fazilka district
- Baljinder Singh, a resident of Fazilka district
- Manpreet Singh, a resident of Bode village under Badhni Kalan police station in Moga district
According to the police, Solab Singh and Baljinder Singh had allegedly travelled to Moga from Fazilka to supply heroin to Manpreet Singh.
These allegations will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police Investigating Possible Pakistan Link
Police officials said the preliminary investigation has indicated that the seized heroin may have originated from Pakistan. The suspected cross-border link is now among the aspects being examined by investigators.
The police are questioning the accused to establish the source of the heroin, identify other people allegedly involved in the supply chain and determine how the consignment reached Moga.
The investigation will also seek to establish the wider network involved in the alleged trafficking.
Three-Day Police Remand
The three accused were produced before a court, which granted the police three days of remand for further questioning.
Investigators are expected to use the remand period to question the accused about the source and intended destination of the heroin, other persons allegedly connected with the network and the movement of the consignment.
Police said further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and guilt has not been established merely by their arrest or registration of the case.
