Contractual Sanitation Workers Undergo ECG, Kidney Function, Lipid Profile and Lung Function Tests
Bilaspur : South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) organised a free health check-up camp for Safai Mitras at its Indira Vihar Health Centre in Bilaspur as part of Special Campaign 6 and Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.
Contractual sanitation workers engaged in cleaning and sanitation activities at SECL’s Indira Vihar Colony, including women sanitation workers, participated in the health screening programme.
The initiative was aimed at ensuring that sanitation workers, who play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, have access to essential health screening and medical advice.
Comprehensive Health Screening
The camp offered a range of medical examinations, allowing workers to undergo multiple tests at a single location. The screening included:
- Blood pressure check
- Blood sugar testing
- General health assessment
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Lipid profile
- Kidney function tests
- Other blood tests
- Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
Medical professionals also provided consultations to the workers during the camp.
SECL said that based on the test reports, beneficiaries would be provided further medical advice and medicines wherever required.
Health and Safety of Safai Mitras in Focus
The health camp was also intended to create greater awareness among sanitation workers about their health and safety.
Workers who benefited from the initiative appreciated the programme, particularly the availability of several diagnostic tests and medical consultation under one roof. They said the screening helped them understand their health status and seek appropriate medical advice.
Part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026
The initiative forms part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, being observed nationwide from September 17 to October 2, 2026, under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
One of the key components of this year’s campaign is the ‘SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivirs’, which focuses on health check-ups, safety equipment and facilitating access to eligible welfare schemes for sanitation workers.
Through these initiatives, the campaign seeks to place greater emphasis on the health, safety and dignity of Safai Mitras.
Special Campaign 6 to Continue Through October
The health camp also forms part of SECL’s activities under Special Campaign 6, which includes cleanliness, awareness and participatory initiatives.
The main implementation phase of Special Campaign 6 will run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with a focus on cleanliness, reducing pendency and improving workplace and public spaces.
This year’s campaign also places particular emphasis on the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste.
SECL is undertaking a range of cleanliness and awareness activities under both campaigns, with the health screening programme highlighting the importance of protecting the people who are directly involved in maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings.
