NIT Raipur Launches National Training Programme on Advanced Applied Mathematics and Quantum Cryptography

Five-day national STTP brings together 65 researchers and faculty members from across India and an international participant from Ethiopia

Raipur: The Department of Mathematics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, in collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Education (CEC), has launched a five-day national-level Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on advanced areas of applied mathematics, including mathematical modelling, nonlinear dynamics, chaos, fractal geometry and quantum cryptography.

Titled “Frontiers in Applied Mathematics: Modeling, Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaos, Fractal Geometry and Quantum Cryptography (FMNCFQ-2026)”, the programme is being conducted from September 7 to September 11, 2026.

The training programme has attracted 65 researchers and faculty members from different states of India, along with one international participant from Ethiopia.

Focus on Practical and Interdisciplinary Applications

Presiding over the inaugural session as the Chief Patron, Prof. Sameer Bajpai, Director (In-charge), NIT Raipur, urged participants to move beyond theoretical concepts and connect mathematical knowledge with computational software and interdisciplinary applications.

He emphasised that the real success of the programme would be reflected in tangible outcomes such as collaborative research publications, sponsored research projects and stronger academic networks.

According to him, training programmes of this nature can play an important role in creating meaningful research collaborations and translating mathematical concepts into practical solutions.

Importance of Chaos Theory and Quantum Cryptography

The Chief Guest, Prof. Arvind Kumar Gupta of IIT Ropar, appreciated the initiative and highlighted the growing importance of chaos theory, nonlinear systems and quantum cryptographic security in addressing contemporary scientific and technological challenges.

The programme is aimed at exposing participants to emerging mathematical techniques and their potential applications in areas ranging from scientific computing to secure communication technologies.

Convergence of Mathematics, AI and Physics

The Guest of Honour, Prof. Narendra D. Londhe, Registrar of NIT Raipur, discussed the increasing complexity of modern engineering systems.

He encouraged participants to explore the convergence of mathematics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), signal processing and physics to develop solutions to complex engineering and scientific problems.

The interdisciplinary approach, he noted, can open new avenues for research and innovation by bringing together expertise from multiple domains.

Applied Mathematics as a Foundation for Real-World Problem Solving

Prof. Subhojit Ghosh, Chairman of the Continuing Education Programme, and Dr. Sujit Kumar Samanta, Head of the Department of Mathematics, highlighted the role of applied mathematics in developing analytical thinking and providing a strong foundation for addressing real-world problems.

They explained how mathematical modelling can be applied to complex challenges in areas such as biology and physical sciences, besides industrial applications.

The programme places particular emphasis on practical mathematical modelling and its relevance to contemporary scientific and technological fields.

Academic Framework Presented During Inaugural Session

Earlier, the STTP coordinators Dr. Sharda Nandan Rao and Dr. Deepmala Sharma welcomed the participants and presented the academic framework of the programme.

The sessions are designed to provide participants with exposure to modern developments in applied mathematics while highlighting the practical use of mathematical modelling in emerging fields.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by coordinator Dr. Lavudya Bhaskar.
