Major Train Collision on Bilaspur–Korba Route: MEMU Train Rams into Stationary Goods Train, Several Injured

🚨

Bilaspur, Tuesday:
A major train accident took place on Tuesday afternoon on the Bilaspur–Korba rail line. A MEMU local train traveling from Bilaspur to Korba collided with a stationary goods train between Jairamnagar and Gatora stations. The impact was so powerful that the MEMU train’s engine and front coaches were severely damaged.

Passengers Panic as Loud Explosion Rocks the Train

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 3 PM when the MEMU train was running at high speed toward Jairamnagar. Suddenly, a loud crash shook the train, throwing passengers off their seats. Windows shattered, and several passengers sustained injuries to their heads and limbs.

One passenger recalled, “There was a loud bang, and the coach filled with smoke. People started screaming for help; we didn’t understand what had happened.”

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

Following the collision, railway officials, police personnel, and local rescue teams rushed to the spot. Injured passengers were immediately evacuated and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Medical teams from the South East Central Railway (SECR) have set up temporary relief camps near the site, providing first aid and assistance. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the damaged coaches from the track.

Rail Traffic Disrupted, Several Trains Diverted

The accident has disrupted rail movement on the Bilaspur–Korba section. Several trains have been halted en route, while others have been diverted to alternate lines. The railway department has urged passengers not to believe in rumors and to rely only on official announcements.

Preliminary Probe Points to Signal or Communication Failure

Initial reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by a signal or communication error. The goods train involved in the crash was already stationed on the same track. Authorities suspect that a signal clearance lapse or coordination failure could have led to the collision.

A high-level inquiry has been ordered, and senior SECR officials are supervising the investigation from the accident site.

Railway Issues Helpline Numbers, Monitors Situation

The South East Central Railway headquarters is closely monitoring the situation. Helpline numbers have been issued for passengers and families seeking information. Officials have assured that all necessary medical and logistical support is being provided to the injured.

Local Residents Join Rescue Efforts

Local villagers from nearby areas rushed to the spot soon after the crash. They assisted in pulling out passengers, provided drinking water, and helped the medical teams with transportation and first aid. Their timely help proved crucial in the initial rescue operations.
