Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh | : In a swift law enforcement operation, the Ratanpur Police arrested an alleged repeat offender who was reportedly threatening pedestrians with a sharp button-operated knife near a liquor shop on Kalmitar Road in the Ratanpur police station area of Bilaspur district. The accused has been sent to judicial custody after being produced before a local court.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on July 22, 2026, when authorities received information that a young man was brandishing a knife and intimidating people passing through the area, creating fear among local residents and commuters.
Immediate Police Response
Acting promptly on the tip-off, Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Nilesh Pandey informed senior police officials and constituted a special police team to respond to the situation.
After reaching the location, officers surrounded the suspect and successfully apprehended him without any reported injuries to the public or police personnel.
Knife Recovered During Search
The accused was identified as Manish alias Bandhan Goswami (22), a resident of Karaihapara, Ratanpur.
During a search, police recovered a sharp button-operated knife from his possession, which was seized as evidence.
A criminal case was subsequently registered against the accused under the provisions of the Arms Act, and after completing the required legal formalities, he was produced before the court. The court ordered that he be sent to judicial remand, following which he was lodged in jail.
