Coal India Holds Major Consumer Meet at SECL Headquarters to Strengthen Coal Supply Coordination


Coal India Limited organized a major consumer meeting for coal buyers from the power and Non-Regulated Sector (NRS) in Central and Western India at the headquarters of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, on May 19, 2026.

The meeting was aimed at improving coordination with consumers and strengthening communication on key issues including coal supply, quality management, logistics, and operational efficiency.

Senior leadership from both Coal India and SECL attended the high-level meeting, including Harish Duhan, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD); Mukesh Chaudhary, Director (Marketing), Coal India; N. Franklin Jayakumar; and Rameshchandra Mahapatra.

Addressing the gathering, Harish Duhan said SECL remains fully committed to supplying quality coal and ensuring timely dispatches to consumers across sectors. He stated that the company has set an ambitious target of producing 195 million tonnes of coal and achieving 200 million tonnes of coal offtake during the current fiscal year.

Duhan emphasized that SECL is working with “full commitment and operational efficiency” to achieve these goals while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. He also assured consumers that the company would continue prioritizing consistent coal quality and uninterrupted supply.

Coal India Director (Marketing) Mukesh Chaudhary highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to provide coal of designated grades and minimize issues related to quality variation and grade slippage. He said Coal India’s primary objective is to ensure seamless coal supply to consumers while addressing operational challenges through continuous coordination and monitoring.

Chaudhary welcomed the suggestions and feedback shared by industry representatives during the meeting and assured participants that all important concerns raised by consumers would receive prompt and constructive attention.

According to officials, nearly 125 representatives from power sector companies and Non-Regulated Sector (NRS) consumer firms participated in the consumer meet. Detailed discussions were held on coal supply mechanisms, logistics management, transportation challenges, quality assurance, and strategies for improving coordination between suppliers and consumers.

Participants also shared feedback regarding operational issues and future requirements, with company officials promising positive follow-up actions and improved responsiveness.

Senior officials from both SECL and Coal India, including Ajit Chaudhary, were also present during the discussions.

Later in the evening, another important meeting was held at the CMD Conference Hall of SECL headquarters, where Mukesh Chaudhary and Harish Duhan interacted with representatives of the Chhattisgarh Sponge Iron Manufacturing Association and other sponge iron industry consumers.

During the interaction, officials and industry stakeholders discussed several issues related to the sponge iron sector, including coal availability, supply coordination, industrial requirements, and operational concerns affecting the industry.
