New Delhi, India: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s leading aerospace and defence manufacturing company, has announced that its Chairman and Managing Director Kota Ravi will take on the additional responsibility of Director (Operations) for an interim period following approval from the Ministry of Defence.
The development was officially communicated through a regulatory filing submitted to stock exchanges after the company received approval from the Ministry of Defence via a letter dated May 11, 2026.
Interim Assignment Effective from May 1
According to HAL’s filing, Kota Ravi has been assigned the additional charge of Director (Operations) with effect from May 1, 2026.
The arrangement will remain in force for a period of three months or until a regular appointee assumes the role, whichever occurs earlier.
The disclosure was made in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015, and was formally shared with both BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India.
Ensuring Continuity in Operational Leadership
The temporary appointment places additional operational responsibilities under Kota Ravi’s leadership at a time when HAL continues to execute several critical defence and aerospace manufacturing programs.
Industry observers say the decision is aimed at ensuring leadership continuity and maintaining smooth operational oversight until a full-time Director (Operations) is appointed.
As Chairman and Managing Director, Kota Ravi already oversees the strategic direction and overall management of HAL. With the added operational role, he is expected to supervise production activities, project execution, manufacturing coordination, and operational efficiency across the company’s extensive aerospace and defence operations.
Strategic Importance of HAL
Headquartered in Bengaluru, HAL is one of India’s most important defence public sector enterprises and plays a central role in the country’s military aviation and aerospace ecosystem.
The company is involved in the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and upgrade of fighter aircraft, helicopters, engines, avionics systems, and other defence platforms used by the Indian armed forces.
HAL is currently engaged in several major national defence projects, including production and support for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, advanced helicopters, aircraft engines, unmanned systems, and modernization programs for the Indian Air Force and other defence services.
Defence Manufacturing Expansion
The leadership update comes at a time when India is aggressively expanding indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities under the government’s “Make in India” and defence self-reliance initiatives.
HAL has emerged as a key player in these efforts, with increasing domestic orders, export opportunities, and collaborations in aerospace manufacturing and defence technology development.
Officials believe maintaining strong and stable leadership is critical for meeting production schedules, fulfilling defence contracts, and supporting India’s long-term strategic objectives in the aerospace sector.
The interim assignment is expected to help the company maintain operational momentum while ensuring continuity in management during the leadership transition period.
