Bhupesh Baghel Says He Has “No Expectations” From Union Budget, Slams Central Government

Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed strong skepticism ahead of the Union Budget, saying he has “no expectations” from the central government. Criticizing past budget announcements, Baghel claimed that earlier promises failed to deliver any real benefits to the public.

Speaking to the media in Raipur, Baghel pointed out that even last year’s budget was filled with big claims, but ordinary citizens saw no tangible relief. “What can we really expect from them?” he said, adding that the upcoming budget would likely offer nothing more than symbolic gestures.

Attack on Employment, Inflation, and Farmers’ Issues

Baghel launched a sharp attack on the central government, accusing it of worsening unemployment and inflation. He said job opportunities have been reduced, prices of essential goods remain high, and farmers are struggling to get fair prices for their produce.

He also alleged that employment under the rural job scheme MGNREGA is being taken away from laborers. Referring to the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Baghel said small traders and business owners have been severely affected. “GST has already broken the backbone of traders,” he remarked.

“Budget Will Be Full of Claims, Not Results”

According to the former CM, the upcoming budget will focus more on claims than actual relief. He said there may be minor reductions in the prices of items like alcohol, cigarettes, or chocolates, but nothing substantial for the common man.

“Beyond such cosmetic changes, there is no real hope,” Baghel stated.

Allegations Over Chhattisgarh’s Mines

Baghel also accused the central government of focusing only on Chhattisgarh’s mineral resources. He claimed that under the slogan of “Modi’s Guarantee,” thousands of farmers in the state have been unable to sell their paddy.

Highlighting internal discontent, Baghel mentioned that even a former BJP MLA from Balod was reportedly unable to sell his paddy. “If BJP-supported farmers are facing this situation, what hope is left for others?” he asked.

He further alleged that the Center’s primary interest lies in Chhattisgarh’s coal, gold, and limestone mines, rather than addressing farmers’ and workers’ concerns.
