Jammu and Kashmir Police launch search operation and announce reward for information leading to the arrest of the escaped prisoners
Srinagar: Two undertrial prisoners facing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have reportedly escaped from the high-security Central Jail in Srinagar, prompting Jammu and Kashmir Police to issue a lookout notice and launch a search operation to trace them.
According to police sources, the escaped prisoners have been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Gujjar, a resident of Sanglan Chittargul in Anantnag district, and Farman Khan, a resident of Sadanpora Rezan in Ganderbal district. The two were lodged in separate cases and were awaiting trial.
Cases Registered Against the Escaped Prisoners
Police said Mukhtar Ahmad Gujjar is wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Soura Police Station in Srinagar.
He is facing charges under Sections 137(2) and 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act.
Farman Khan is wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Lar Police Station in Ganderbal. Police said he has been booked under Sections 137(2) and 87 of the BNS along with Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act.
Search Operation Underway
Following the escape, police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the two undertrials.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information regarding their whereabouts. Police have also announced a reward for information that could help in tracing the escaped prisoners.
Officials, however, have not disclosed details about the circumstances under which the two prisoners managed to escape from the high-security facility.
Central Jail Under Tight Security
The Central Jail in Rainawari, Srinagar, is considered a high-security correctional facility and houses more than 500 prisoners.
The escape of two undertrial prisoners from the facility has raised security concerns, with authorities now conducting an intensive search operation to trace them.
Police teams are checking possible locations and coordinating efforts to prevent the accused from leaving the area.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is also underway.
