PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Not Invited to IPL 2026 Final, To Join ICC Board Meeting Virtually

Ahmedabad/New Delhi — Contrary to widespread speculation circulating in sections of the media, Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has not been invited to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final in Ahmedabad.

Sources familiar with the matter clarified that Naqvi will instead participate virtually in the upcoming annual board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC), which is scheduled to take place on May 31 alongside the IPL 2026 final festivities in Ahmedabad, India.

The development comes amid heightened attention surrounding cricket diplomacy and administrative relations between India and Pakistan, especially after recent reports suggested that Naqvi could attend the IPL final in person. However, officials have now confirmed that no formal invitation was extended to the PCB chief for the marquee T20 event.

According to reports, Naqvi is among three ICC board members who are expected to attend the annual meeting virtually rather than physically. The reasons behind the virtual participation were not officially disclosed, though logistical and diplomatic considerations are believed to be factors.

The ICC Annual Board Meeting is considered one of the most important administrative gatherings in world cricket. Key discussions are expected to include the future international cricket calendar, revenue distribution models, global tournament structures, bilateral cricket arrangements, and governance reforms within the sport.

The IPL 2026 final, meanwhile, is set to be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, one of the world’s largest cricket venues. The tournament has once again drawn massive global attention, with millions of viewers expected to tune in for the championship clash.

Relations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB have remained sensitive in recent years due to ongoing political tensions between the two neighboring nations. Cricketing ties between India and Pakistan have largely been restricted to ICC and Asian Cricket Council tournaments, with no bilateral series played between the two sides for more than a decade.

While ICC meetings traditionally bring together representatives from all major cricket boards, participation formats — including virtual attendance — have become increasingly common in recent years, particularly for officials unable to travel due to scheduling, diplomatic, or administrative constraints.

Neither the BCCI nor the PCB has issued an official public statement regarding the invitation speculation. However, insiders emphasized that Naqvi’s participation in the ICC board meeting remains unaffected and that he will continue to be part of key decision-making discussions remotely.

The clarification effectively ends speculation surrounding the PCB chairman’s potential appearance at one of India’s biggest sporting events of the year.
