NTPC and UPRVUNL Sign SJVA-III to Expand Meja Power Plant Capacity to 3×800 MW


Lucknow, India | In a major boost to India’s power generation sector, NTPC Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) have signed the Supplementary Joint Venture Agreement (SJVA)-III to significantly expand the capacity of the Meja Thermal Power Project. The agreement marks a crucial milestone in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s energy infrastructure and supporting the state’s growing electricity demand.

The agreement was formally signed on June 4, 2026, in Lucknow, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations, including the Managing Director of UPRVUNL, the Chief Executive Officer of Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), and other key executives.

Major Capacity Upgrade Planned

Under the newly signed SJVA-III, the partners have agreed to enhance the proposed Meja Stage-II Project configuration from 2×660 MW to 3×800 MW, substantially increasing the project’s power generation capability.

The expansion will be implemented through Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), the joint venture company established by NTPC and UPRVUNL for developing and operating the Meja power project.
