Government Appoints Sambeet Saurav Nayak as Chief Vigilance Officer of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd


New Delhi, India — The Government of India has appointed Sambeet Saurav Nayak as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Sambalpur, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) dated April 10, 2026.

Nayak, a 2012-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), has been appointed for an initial tenure of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Coal.


Appointment Details

As per the official Office Memorandum, Nayak’s appointment will take effect after April 27, 2026, upon completion of the current CVO’s tenure.

He will be placed at Pay Level 13 under the government pay matrix, with a salary range of ₹1,23,100 to ₹2,15,900.

Nayak will be relieved from his current position in the Railway Board to assume his new responsibilities at MCL.


Key Responsibilities

As Chief Vigilance Officer, Nayak will play a critical role in strengthening vigilance systems within MCL. His responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring transparency and accountability across operations
  • Strengthening preventive vigilance mechanisms
  • Monitoring adherence to compliance and governance frameworks
  • Advising the organization on integrity and ethical practices

The role is vital in maintaining operational integrity within one of India’s major coal-producing companies.


Administrative Approval

The appointment has been approved by the competent authority following consultation with the Central Vigilance Commission, in line with established procedures for senior vigilance appointments.

The official order was issued from Kartavya Bhavan-3 in New Delhi and circulated to all relevant authorities for necessary action and record.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited is a key subsidiary of Coal India Limited and plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s energy demands. The appointment of Nayak underscores the government’s continued emphasis on enhancing transparency, accountability, and governance standards in the coal and energy sector.
