RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH, INDIA — A murder investigation in Singarpur village has taken a major turn after DNA testing reportedly linked blood samples found on a suspect’s clothing and a wooden stick to the victim, helping police identify and arrest a man accused of killing a local resident.
According to police, Ramprasad Sahu was arrested in connection with the murder of Rajaram Sahu, also known as Chonti, in the village of Singarpur, which falls under the Bhatapara Rural Police Station jurisdiction in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district.
Investigators said a report from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Raipur played a significant role in advancing the case. The report, received on October 12, 2026, reportedly found that the DNA profiles obtained from bloodstains on the suspect’s clothing and a wooden stick matched the victim’s DNA profile.
Police said the findings helped strengthen the investigation after the suspect initially denied involvement in the crime.
Body Found Near Village Pond
The incident occurred on the night of September 19, 2026, when Rajaram Sahu’s bloodied body was discovered near the large pond in Singarpur village.
According to the initial investigation, the victim had suffered severe injuries to his head and face. Police suspected that an unidentified assailant had attacked him with a stone and a wooden stick.
Following a complaint filed by Sukhdev Sahu, police registered a criminal case at the Bhatapara Rural Police Station under Crime No. 556/2026, invoking Section 103(1) of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses murder.
Investigators began collecting physical evidence from the crime scene and questioning people who knew the victim, as well as residents living in the surrounding area.
Because of the seriousness of the case, a joint investigation team comprising personnel from the Bhatapara Rural Police Station and the Special Cyber Cell was formed under the direction of Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai.
Previous Dispute Emerges During Investigation
As the investigation progressed, police learned that Rajaram Sahu and fellow villager Ramprasad Sahu allegedly had a history of disputes and personal animosity.
Investigators subsequently brought Ramprasad Sahu under suspicion and questioned him about the killing.
According to police, the suspect was taken into custody on September 21 and initially denied involvement in the crime.
Rather than relying solely on questioning, investigators focused on collecting and examining physical and scientific evidence that could help establish what happened on the night of the murder.
Police seized clothing reportedly worn by the suspect at the time of the incident, along with a wooden stick suspected of being used in the attack. The items were sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Raipur for chemical and biological examination.
DNA Report Provides a Major Breakthrough
The investigation reached a critical stage on October 12, 2026, when police received the DNA examination report from SFSL Raipur.
According to Inspector Hemant Patel, the officer in charge of the Bhatapara Rural Police Station, the report indicated that blood samples recovered from the suspect’s clothing and the wooden stick matched Rajaram Sahu’s DNA profile.
Investigators treated the findings as significant forensic evidence in the case.
DNA analysis can help establish whether biological material recovered from an object is consistent with a particular person’s DNA profile. In this investigation, police said the reported match strengthened the evidentiary link between the victim and the items seized during the investigation.
However, a DNA match alone does not establish every circumstance of a crime. The complete evidence must be assessed as part of the legal proceedings.
Suspect Questioned Again and Arrested
Following receipt of the forensic report, police and Cyber Cell personnel questioned Ramprasad Sahu again on October 14, 2026.
According to Inspector Patel, investigators confronted the suspect with the scientific evidence gathered during the investigation.
Police said the suspect then admitted to attacking Rajaram Sahu with a stone and a wooden stick following a previous dispute and longstanding personal animosity.
Authorities subsequently arrested Ramprasad Sahu based on the evidence collected during the investigation, including the forensic findings and other material evidence.
Police said the accused was being sent to court for judicial remand, while further legal proceedings would continue before the appropriate court.
The suspect’s reported statement to investigators is part of the police account of the case. His guilt has not been established by a court, and the allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings.
Clothing and Wooden Stick Among Key Evidence
The items seized during the investigation included:
- Clothing allegedly worn by the suspect at the time of the incident, reportedly bearing bloodstains.
- A wooden stick suspected of being used in the attack.
- Other physical and forensic evidence collected from the crime scene.
The items were examined as part of the investigation to determine whether they could be scientifically connected to the victim and the suspected crime.
Police said the forensic report became particularly important because the suspect had initially denied involvement.
The investigation demonstrates how biological evidence can help investigators develop leads and strengthen a criminal case when combined with other evidence. The ultimate assessment of that evidence, however, rests with the judicial process.
Joint Police and Cyber Cell Team Led Investigation
According to police, personnel from the Bhatapara Rural Police Station and the Cyber Cell worked together to investigate the murder, collect evidence, question the suspect, and carry out the arrest.
The team included:
- Inspector Hemant Patel — Officer in charge, Bhatapara Rural Police Station
- Inspector Pranali Vaidya — Cyber Police Station in charge
- Sub-Inspector Jagdev Sahu
- Assistant Sub-Inspector Naveen Shukla
- Head Constable Naveen Kurre
- Constables Harish Chandravanshi, Vijay Thakur, Shrichand Dhruv, Gauri Shankar Kashyap, Sitaram Dhruv, and Durgesh Sahu
Police credited the coordinated work of the two units with helping advance the investigation through evidence collection and forensic analysis.
Case Moves Forward Through Legal Proceedings
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into Rajaram Sahu’s death. According to police, the reported DNA match helped investigators strengthen their case after the initial questioning failed to produce an admission of involvement.
The matter will now proceed through the applicable legal process, where the prosecution’s evidence will be examined by the court.
Authorities have indicated that further legal action will be taken in accordance with the evidence and the requirements of the investigation.
