Bagdogra, India | June 2026 — Bagdogra Airport has achieved a remarkable milestone in air cargo operations, recording a 160% increase in litchi cargo transportation during the May–June 2026 harvest season. The impressive growth highlights the airport’s expanding role in supporting agricultural exports and improving market access for fruit growers across Eastern and North-Eastern India.
According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport handled 741.525 metric tonnes of fresh litchis during the two-month period. This marks a substantial rise from the 271.4 metric tonnes transported during the 2025–26 financial year, reflecting growing demand and improved cargo logistics.
The freshly harvested litchis were shipped to major Indian metropolitan markets, including Delhi, Mumbai, and several other key cities. The faster air transportation ensured that the highly perishable fruit reached consumers in peak condition while allowing farmers to secure better prices in larger markets.
Industry experts say the significant increase in cargo movement demonstrates the growing efficiency of Bagdogra Airport’s cargo infrastructure and its importance in strengthening India’s agricultural supply chain.
