Mumbai : Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), a group company of GAIL (India) Limited, has successfully transformed Amanora Park Town into a completely LPG-free residential township by providing 100% Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity across all households.
The achievement marks a significant milestone in India’s clean energy transition and urban sustainability efforts, while also strengthening the country’s rapidly expanding City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.
According to company officials, the project aligns with the Government of India’s long-term strategy to promote cleaner fuel adoption, reduce dependence on LPG cylinders, and improve urban energy infrastructure through safer and more efficient natural gas systems.
8,455 Households Connected to PNG Network
As part of the initiative, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited completed the deployment of PNG infrastructure across Amanora Park Town, achieving:
- 100% PNG connectivity for 8,455 residential households
- Complete elimination of LPG cylinder usage within the township
- Restriction on LPG cylinder entry through all township gates
- Continuous and uninterrupted natural gas supply for residents
With the successful transition, Amanora Park Town has become one of India’s largest privately managed residential communities to operate entirely without LPG cylinders.
Officials stated that the move significantly reduces logistical challenges associated with cylinder transportation and storage while improving safety and operational efficiency across the township.
Advancing Sustainable Urban Living
The LPG-free model is being viewed as a major example of sustainable urban living and modern energy management in India.
Industry experts noted that the transition to PNG-based residential ecosystems offers several long-term benefits, including:
- Improved urban air quality
- Reduced carbon emissions
- Enhanced household safety
- Greater convenience for residents
- Improved energy efficiency and reliability
The initiative also demonstrates how large-scale residential communities can successfully adopt cleaner fuel systems while supporting national sustainability and climate objectives.
Supporting India’s Energy Transition Goals
The project closely aligns with the Government of India’s broader clean energy and energy security agenda, which focuses on expanding natural gas usage across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has consistently emphasized the importance of expanding City Gas Distribution infrastructure as part of the country’s long-term energy transition strategy.
Government initiatives continue to prioritize:
- Increased PNG penetration in urban households
- Expansion of CGD networks across cities
- Reduction in fossil fuel emissions
- Promotion of cleaner and safer fuel alternatives
Strengthening India’s City Gas Distribution Ecosystem
GAIL (India) Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited have been actively expanding PNG and CNG infrastructure in several urban regions as demand for cleaner energy solutions continues to rise.
The Amanora Park Town project is now being viewed as a scalable model for future smart cities and integrated residential developments, particularly in metro and tier-1 urban centers.
Energy sector analysts believe LPG-free residential townships could increasingly become a standard feature in modern urban planning as India accelerates its push toward low-emission and sustainable energy systems.
