Bilaspur, India — In a timely and community-focused initiative, the Shraddha Mahila Mandal, affiliated with SECL Bilaspur, has launched a series of public drinking water stations (“Pyaau”) across key areas of the city to provide relief during the intense summer heat.
Under the guidance of the organization’s president, Mrs. Shashi Duhan, three water coolers have been installed at prominent locations — Indira Vihar, Basant Vihar, and Nehru Shatabdi Chowk. These stations are now fully operational and are being maintained regularly to ensure a continuous supply of clean, chilled drinking water for pedestrians and the general public.
The initiative is aimed at addressing the challenges posed by soaring temperatures, which often make access to safe drinking water difficult for commuters, daily wage workers, and others spending extended time outdoors. By setting up these accessible hydration points, the organization hopes to reduce heat-related stress and promote public well-being.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key members of the Shraddha Mahila Mandal, including Vice President Mrs. Anita B. Franklin, along with Mrs. Vinita Jain and Mrs. Subhashree Mahapatra, among other members and volunteers. Their active participation highlighted the collective spirit behind this humanitarian effort.
To mark the launch, volunteers distributed refreshing “aam panna” (a traditional raw mango drink known for its cooling properties) to passersby, reinforcing the campaign’s message: “Water is life.”
Organizers have emphasized that these water stations will not be limited to seasonal use but will continue to operate throughout the year, ensuring consistent access to safe drinking water for the community.
This initiative reflects the group’s commitment to public service and social responsibility. By turning the principle of “service to others is the highest virtue” into action, the Shraddha Mahila Mandal has set an example of grassroots leadership and compassion that others can follow.
Local residents have welcomed the move, calling it both thoughtful and essential, especially during the peak summer months when temperatures in the region can become extreme.
