Man Beaten to Death Over Old Financial Dispute in Durg; One Arrested


Durg, Chhattisgarh |In a swift action, Durg Police have arrested one accused in connection with the murder of a man who was allegedly beaten during a dispute over the recovery of old dues. The incident took place at a hotel in the city, police said on Tuesday.

According to officials, the body of the deceased, identified as Rishi Nirmalkar, was sent for post-mortem examination after Supela police registered a marg (unnatural death) case on January 25, 2026. Following the receipt of the preliminary post-mortem report, statements of witnesses and the victim’s father were recorded.

Investigations revealed that on January 24, 2026, Rishi Nirmalkar was assaulted by the accused at Hotel 36 Inn, Indira Market, Durg, following an argument related to the recovery of old money. The accused allegedly attacked him with fists, causing serious injuries. Nirmalkar later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Based on the post-mortem report, witness statements, marg panchnama, and the death summary from Sparsh Hospital, police confirmed that the death was the result of injuries sustained in the assault.

Subsequently, Crime No. 48/2026 was registered at City Kotwali Police Station, Durg, under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Prashant Rao, son of Lakshman Rao, and other accomplices.

Police have taken the prime accused, Prashant Rao, into custody, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.

Durg Police stated that all legal procedures are being carried out promptly and strictly in accordance with the law.
