After Sukli Chowk Accident, Highway Safety Inspected; Orders Issued to Improve Accident-Prone Spots


Janjgir-Champa  Following the horrific road accident at Sukli Chowk on 25 November — in which five people travelling in a Scorpio lost their lives — authorities conducted a detailed inspection of the highway on Friday. Sanjay Sharma, AIG Traffic (PHQ) Raipur, reached the spot with his team to review safety conditions on the highway and issued several suggestions aimed at preventing such incidents in the future.

During Friday’s inspection, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Udayan Behar, SDM Subrat Pradhan, RTO Gaurav Sahu, SDO (PWD) Dalganjan Sai, NH Sub-Engineer Vijay Sahu, Jangir Police Station In-Charge Manikant Pandey, Inspector Lalan Patel and other officials from the traffic department were present.

AIG Sanjay Sharma emphasized the need for engineering-related corrections, issuing directions to immediately clear bushes along the highway, install proper signages at turning points connecting main and secondary roads, and strengthen road structure to ensure safe vehicle movement. He also highlighted the need to reduce ambulance response time to enhance emergency support.

To prevent recurrence of accidents, the team also inspected other major accident-prone locations in the districtKhōkhra Chowk, Munood Chowk and Putpura Tiraaha. At Pukhraj–Putpura Tiraaha, officials recommended special safety interventions to ensure smoother and safer movement of vehicles.

Administration officials believe that timely implementation of the recommended measures will significantly reduce road accidents in the region and make travel safer for commuters.
