Former Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Robbed During Morning Walk in Raipur

Raipur, India — In a shocking incident that has raised fresh concerns over street crime in central India, former Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker and senior BJP leader Dharamlal Kaushik was reportedly robbed during a morning walk in Raipur on Monday.

According to police and local reports, the incident took place around 8:15 a.m. when Kaushik had stepped out alone for his routine walk near his residence in the state capital. During the walk, a युवक riding a motorcycle allegedly approached him, snatched his mobile phone, and sped away before anyone could react.

The incident occurred while India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on an official visit to Chhattisgarh, making the robbery particularly embarrassing for the local administration and law enforcement agencies.

Police Launch Investigation

Soon after the incident, Kaushik informed the police, triggering an immediate response from security officials. Police teams were deployed in the area, and investigators began reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspect and trace the escape route used by the आरोपी.

Authorities said efforts are underway to track the stolen phone and locate the motorcycle involved in the robbery. Senior police officials are reportedly monitoring the investigation due to the high-profile nature of the victim.

Rising Street Crime Concerns in Raipur

The robbery has once again highlighted growing concerns over rising incidents of mobile snatching and street crimes in Raipur. Residents have increasingly complained about thefts and attacks involving motorcycles, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Just two days before this incident, another violent robbery was reported in the city’s Pandri area, where a young man was allegedly attacked with a blade before his mobile phone was stolen. Such repeated incidents have created fear among local residents and prompted demands for stronger police patrolling and surveillance.

Political Reactions Expected

Given Kaushik’s senior political stature and the timing of the incident during a major central government visit, the robbery is expected to trigger political debate over public safety and policing in the state capital.

Police officials have assured that the accused will be arrested soon and security measures in vulnerable areas will be strengthened.
