Mungeli // In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign Operation Baaz, Mungeli Police have successfully arrested two smugglers involved in brown sugar trafficking. A joint team of the City Kotwali Police and the Cyber Cell apprehended the accused while they were attempting to smuggle drugs into the district.
During the operation, the police recovered 15 grams of brown sugar, three mobile phones, cash, and a motorcycle used in trafficking. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around ₹1,15,000.
Smugglers Were Coming From Bilaspur, Caught at Geedha Bypass
Police received a tip-off that two youths were transporting brown sugar from Bilaspur to Mungeli on a motorcycle. Acting swiftly, the Cyber Cell and City Kotwali team launched the operation and set up a blockade at Geedha Bypass. At around 4:10 PM, the team stopped a Passion Pro motorcycle and detained the two suspects.
In the presence of witnesses, the police searched them and recovered:
- 10 grams of brown sugar, cash and one mobile from Aditya Sharma
- 5 grams of brown sugar, two mobiles and cash from Deepak Singh Chhatri
Accused Sent to Jail
The seized material and motorcycle were taken into custody, and an FIR has been registered at City Kotwali Police Station under Crime No. 527/2025, Section 21 NDPS Act. Both accused have been sent to judicial remand.

Police Message to the Public
Police have appealed to the residents of the district to immediately share information regarding illegal drug activities or smuggling. The identity of informers will be kept confidential.
Station House Officer Kartikeshwar Jangde, along with the Cyber Cell team and several police personnel, played a key role in this operation. The police confirmed that the anti-drug drive will continue, and such actions will be carried out regularly to curb narcotics across the district.
