Assassin’s Creed Shadows Likely to End Story with Claws of Awaji DLC, Suggests Ubisoft

French video game publisher Ubisoft has hinted that Assassin’s Creed Shadows may not receive another major story expansion beyond the recently released Claws of Awaji DLC. The update came from Assassin’s Creed Shadows associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois during an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor.

When asked whether players could expect a second large-scale DLC comparable to Claws of Awaji, Lemay-Comtois clarified that Ubisoft currently has no such plans.
“With the caveat that anything can happen in the future, as Mirage just proved and as crossover stories from Odyssey to Valhalla also proved before it, things could come up in the future,” he said. “But as of now, at this moment, for year two, there is no expansion on the size of Awaji planned currently.”

This statement confirms that fans should not expect another significant story add-on within the first year of release—and even beyond that, the possibility remains uncertain. The decision marks a notable change from Ubisoft’s usual long-term post-launch support for the franchise, as games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla received several years of expansions and content drops.

Even in 2024, Ubisoft continued this trend for other titles, notably releasing the free Valley of Memory DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage on November 18, adding a new location, narrative chapter, and gameplay features.

Current Update Status for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Since launching in March, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has received multiple patches focused on refining parkour mechanics and overall gameplay. The first major DLC, Claws of Awaji, released in September, introduced a new island to explore along with roughly ten hours of additional missions.

About Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Set in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows lets players switch between two protagonists:

  • Naoe, a stealth-focused shinobi
  • Yasuke, a samurai built for direct combat

Gameplay alternates between infiltration, parkour, and open combat, with weather and time-of-day systems influencing mission strategy. The narrative follows Naoe and Yasuke as their paths cross amid political unrest, pushing them into an uneasy alliance as they uncover deeper conspiracies across Japan.

The game launched on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
