Two separate violent incidents reported in Sirgitti area on the same night; accused reportedly absconding, police investigating with the help of CCTV footage
Bilaspur: Two separate violent incidents in the Sirgitti police station area of Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, have created panic in the locality. In one incident, a younger brother allegedly killed his elder brother following a family dispute, while in another, a youth was allegedly attacked with a knife following an altercation outside a liquor shop. The accused in both cases are reportedly absconding, and police have launched an investigation.
Brother allegedly kills elder brother on Raksha Bandhan
The first incident was reported from the Suryavanshi locality of Hardi village, where 38-year-old Subhash Kurre died.
According to preliminary information, Subhash’s sister and nephew had visited the house on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. During this time, an argument reportedly broke out between Subhash’s younger brother, Sudarshan Kurre, and the nephew.
The situation allegedly escalated when Sudarshan started assaulting the nephew. Subhash intervened to stop the fight, following which an argument reportedly broke out between the two brothers.
Police said that Sudarshan allegedly attacked Subhash with an iron rod-like agricultural tool (sabbal). The assault caused critical injuries, and Subhash reportedly died at the spot. The accused allegedly fled the scene following the incident.
After receiving information, Sirgitti police and a forensic team reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the accused.
Youth allegedly stabbed outside liquor shop
The second incident took place outside a liquor shop in the Hardi Kala-Tona area.
According to information available so far, a dispute reportedly broke out between Hardi resident Rakesh Prajapati and a group of youths over purchasing liquor. The argument allegedly escalated into a physical fight before turning violent.
Rakesh was allegedly attacked with a knife during the confrontation. He was found seriously injured on the roadside after the attack. The accused reportedly fled from the spot.
Sirgitti police reached the location after being informed about the incident and initiated an investigation.
Police examining CCTV footage
Police are working to identify and locate the accused in both cases. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined as part of the investigation.
ASP Pankaj Kumar Patel said that two murder cases had been reported in the Sirgitti police station area. He said police were using CCTV footage to identify the accused and efforts were underway to arrest them at the earliest.
Questions raised over CCTV arrangements outside liquor shop
The knife attack has also raised questions about security and surveillance arrangements around the liquor shop.
According to preliminary information, CCTV cameras are installed inside the shop, but adequate surveillance cameras may not be available outside the premises and along the main road. Since the liquor shop is located close to a residential area, the lack of adequate external surveillance could make it more difficult to identify those involved in incidents occurring outside the shop.
Two incidents in one area raise law-and-order concerns
The two violent incidents reported in the same police station area on the same night have raised concerns over law and order in the locality.
While one incident involved an alleged fatal family dispute between two brothers, the other reportedly began with an argument outside a liquor shop before escalating into a knife attack.
Police are continuing their investigation into both cases. Officials said CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined to identify the accused and facilitate their arrest.
