512-MW AI data centre to be developed at Amanam village; project expected to create up to 1,000 jobs
Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a major ₹31,387-crore Green Integrated AI Data Centre project in Visakhapatnam district, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state’s position as a hub for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
The project will be developed by AM AI Factory (Vizag) Pvt Ltd and will have a planned capacity of 512 MW.
According to a Government Order issued by IT Secretary Bhaskar Katamneni, the facility will be established at Amanam village in Bheemunipatnam mandal.
Project to Be Completed Within 28 Months
The state government has formally approved the establishment of the Green Integrated AI Data Centre Facility, with the project expected to be completed within two years and four months.
The large-scale investment is expected to create significant economic activity in the region and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s digital and technology infrastructure.
Up to 1,000 Employment Opportunities
According to the Government Order, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for up to 1,000 people.
The facility is likely to create both direct employment at the data centre and indirect opportunities through associated infrastructure, services, technology and support industries.
Government to Provide Infrastructure Support
As part of the project’s non-fiscal incentives, the Andhra Pradesh government will provide support for power infrastructure and facilitate the availability of water, among other necessary infrastructure requirements.
Reliable electricity and water supply are critical for large-scale data centres because of their high computing requirements and continuous cooling needs.
Fiscal Incentives Also Approved
The state government has also announced several fiscal incentives to support the project.
These include:
- Exemption from stamp duty
- Exemption from electricity duty
- Support for power infrastructure
- Water supply and other infrastructure facilitation
The incentives are aimed at creating a favourable environment for establishing the large-scale AI computing facility in the state.
Boost to Andhra Pradesh’s AI and Digital Economy
The proposed 512-MW green AI data centre is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s digital infrastructure and contribute to the state’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and advanced digital services.
The project’s focus on green infrastructure also comes amid growing demand for energy-efficient data centres as AI workloads require increasingly large amounts of computing power.
Visakhapatnam Emerging as Technology Hub
The project could further accelerate the development of Visakhapatnam as a major technology and digital infrastructure destination.
With an investment exceeding ₹31,387 crore, the facility represents one of the significant proposed technology infrastructure projects in the region and could attract additional investments in AI, cloud services, telecommunications and related sectors.
The Andhra Pradesh government’s approval provides the project with the necessary policy backing to move towards implementation.
