Rawalpindi / Islamabad — On Tuesday, the sister of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, Uzma Khanum, was allowed to meet him at Adiala Jail — a rare instance of family access after weeks of restricted visitation rights.
After the meeting, Uzma told reporters that Imran Khan was “perfectly fine,” seeking to dispel widespread rumours about his health that had sparked concern nationally. She emphasised that while he appeared physically well, the family remains deeply troubled by the prolonged isolation and lack of transparency regarding his well-being.
Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) — the party founded by Imran Khan — have maintained continuous protests outside the jail and at the Islamabad High Court, demanding to know his whereabouts and pressing for unrestricted access to him. The demonstrations reflect rising impatience among party members and supporters over what they describe as “custodial secrecy.”
The jail authorities’ decision to allow the visit to Uzma — a medical doctor by profession — comes amid mounting national and international scrutiny over Khan’s detention and repeated allegations of inhumane treatment inside prison. Observers say the move may be an attempt to ease pressure on the government, though PTI supporters warn the protests will continue until full access to Khan is restored.
As of now, Imran Khan remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail since August 2023, following multiple convictions on corruption-related charges — a timeline his party strongly contests as politically motivated.
